Review by Publisher's Weekly Review
In honor of the 70th anniversary of the luxury paint and wallpaper brand Farrow & Ball, creative director Cosby and color consultant Studholme use stunning photography and written detail to highlight the multiple factors that transform average square footage into dynamic, evocative living space. When it comes to making design decisions about any given room, their approach is simple: consider the architectural elements, the light, and personal tastes. There are endless ways to transform a room from darkness into light. Exploring a neutral theme? Consider traditional neutral, or a yellow-based neutral, or a red-based neutral. Beyond that you will need also to decide whether to go with the contemporary neutral, the easy neutral, or the architectural neutral. The nuance is explained in the detailed text, and tones are differentiated in the exceptional photography. The wealth of information on topics such as room accessories, color combinations, and even ceilings makes this book an invaluable tool for the novice who feels inspired to give a living space a makeover. Studholme and Cosby, designers for the British paint firm Farrow & Ball (F&B), spotlight the use of paint and wallpaper for domestic interiors rather than providing the usual decorating advice. An introduction to the business features a history and overview of the creation of its paint shades and wallpaper. A large portion of the book is devoted to how F&B's products have been applied in homes worldwide, with emphasis on their use for architectural details as well as on ceilings and floors. For each of the nearly 300 color photographs, the F&B shade or wallpaper is identified. The volume concludes with practical information on painting, equipment, finishes, and a list of showrooms in the UK, Europe, and North America. VERDICT Although this is basically a dressed-up F&B catalog, the color combinations displayed furnish a wealth of decorating ideas. © Copyright 2016.
