Stanley the hamster has donned many hats farmer, builder, chef and this newest outing sees him trying on the helmet of a mailman. In the wee hours of the morning, before the sun has risen, Stanley is already busy sorting the day's mail. Soon, he has his scooter loaded up and sets off to deliver letters and packages all over town. Not only do readers get to follow Stanley along his route, they get to see each box and envelope opened. Most of the townsfolk are pleased to see Stanley, who brings gifts, love letters, and packages from abroad. But not everyone is excited by their mail; Hattie, who receives a speeding ticket Thanks a lot, Stanley. All in all, Stanley has a good but very busy day, and kids will enjoy accompanying him through it. Simple, digital illustrations use saturated colors against white backgrounds and possess an endearing quality, and reading the mail's address labels adds to the fun. Pair with Marianne Dubuc's Mr. Postmouse's Rounds (2015).--Smith, Julia Copyright 2016 Booklist

PreS-Gr 1-A good selection for showing the importance of responsibility and of being a good neighbor. Stanley the hamster has a very important job in his community-he is the mailman. Readers follow Stanley as he goes on his rounds delivering the mail. Readers learn about the personalities of all the neighbors and how their mail can make them happy or exasperated. The illustrations are a particular delight, as they are bold and clear and move the text along skillfully. The illustrations and text present excellent sequencing and pacing. Teachers and librarians can use these visuals to teach about characters, directions, and relative location. Stanley must make decisions about how to best do his job, and kids will relate to him having to do things like taking a bath and getting ready for bed. VERDICT This offering works well for storytime or as a one-on-one. Recommended as a first purchase.-Shannan Hicks, J.S. Clark Elementary School Library, LA © Copyright 2016. A new Stanley book means another chance to watch the ultra-mellow hamster demonstrate yet another profession: this time, he's delivering mail by scooter. The simple premise and tidy illustrations are just right for the Maisy crowd, but the older set will smile at some of Stanley's encounters (e.g., because Hattie's mail includes a speeding ticket, she grumbles, "Thanks a lot, Stanley").
