The handy anatomy answer book Includes physiology

Patricia L. Barnes-Svarney

Book - 2016

"Covering all the major body systems--integumentary (skin, hair, etc.), skeletal, muscular, nervous, sensory, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive, and, for good measure, this answer book adds chapters on growth and development and how science can help and augment the body. It follows the fascinating maze of organ systems and shows how much the body does routinely just to let you move, breathe, eat, and fight off disease."--

Review by Library Journal Review

In Barnes-Svarney and Svarney's (coauthors, The Handy Math Answer Book) accessible, well-illustrated resource, entries are posed as questions, such as: "What is arthritis?" and "What is seasonal affective disorder (SAD)?" With answers that are succinct and informational, the updated entries in this second edition include a section on physiology to reflect advances in medicine and technology. Cellphone elbow is now a condition alongside tennis and golf elbow. This book is not only about how the body works or doesn't work, it also defines common terminology such as sleep apnea and muscular dystrophies. An easy-to-use format, complete with color-coded and labeled tabs, makes finding information convenient. VERDICT The array of topics covered will provide students with a strong starting point, and creates an absorbing resource for the layperson. This useful reference is recommended for both middle and high school students of anatomy as well as anyone interested in how the body functions.-Christine Sharbrough, Chelmsford P.L., MA © Copyright 2016.
