Review by Library Journal Review

Ready, set, grab your library card and go. Librarian Sheridan (I Work at a Public Library) reviews an abundance of diverse literature in this cleverly titled book. With categories like American't Dream, Daisy Dukes, and Meta Textuals, Sheridan's tone is conversational, giving the book a personal feel, such as what you might find when making a stop at the reference desk. However, these recommendations (e.g., Richard Yates's Revolutionary Road and John Howard Griffin's Black Like Me) aren't your average readers' advisory; they don't follow the best sellers and the "if you like this, you should try this" model, exactly. Instead, Sheridan suggests books that are often forgotten; sometimes controversial ones. Significant and thought-provoking titles that have a powerful message, Sheridan's picks are sure to have something to please everyone, including audiobook lovers and fans of graphic novels. Covering one title per page, each review has a box for readers to keep track of books they have already read or may want to read, and there is a Master Checklist appendix with a list of all the titles in alphabetical order. VERDICT A great collection of must-read books suitable for a wide audience.--Venessa Hughes, Buffalo, NY © Copyright 2015. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
