Review by Kirkus Book Review

A traipse through the woods is filled with surprises. A wooded area is fully explored in this board book. Each double-page spread is narrated in simple rhyming text, but the real treat is the "Can you find..." games supplied for each scene and neat woodland trivia concealed beneath a flap. The forest comes to life with charming illustrations and numerous flaps that lift to reveal little critters of all shapes and sizes. Little ones are encouraged to find and count every creature in each scene. There are deer, bears, wolves, skunks, and plenty of other forest animals on display. Companion book In the Jungle publishes simultaneously and focuses on generic exotic settings, including (despite the title) the savanna. There's plenty of interaction to be found in both books, and readers who are old enough to get involved will respond well, making it a nice bridge from playtime to storytime or vice versa. A solid read for little ones who crave the outdoors. (Board book. 2-5) Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
