Review by Library Journal Review

Many sewists are familiar with BurdaStyle, whether through the magazine (which is published in a number of countries) or online sewing community. The latest in BurdaStyle's growing library of branded books focuses on everyday wardrobe staples, including tops, bottoms, and coordinates. The style leans toward sophisticated workwear with charming details such as pleats and gathers, and several of the designs have a retromodern feel, such as the skirt suit with the boxy jacket and the cap-sleeved dress. Although the directions for each pattern are thorough and the basics of body measurement and working with patterns are covered, this isn't a sewing guide. Knowledge of basic-to-intermediate garment sewing skills is assumed. Pull-out sheets in the back of the book contain the patterns; six sizes (corresponding roughly to U.S. sizes 6-14) are included. VERDICT The BurdaStyle name is popular among sewists, and this collection of workplace-friendly garments from the magazine's archives will appeal to young professionals who want to put a distinct stamp on their wardrobe.
