Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-5-This mixed assortment covers a haphazard grouping of people. The titles on historical figures here stand above those on more contemporary figures. It's not clear why Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II are being considered alongside Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Jackie Robinson. The Zuckerberg book offers a somewhat breezy view of the creation of Facebook. Printed in a casual font, picture captions sometimes provide facts out of context. Each of the offerings includes back matter with, among other features, a list of "true statistics" and a section with a brief paragraph about important figures in the subject's life. The publisher's website is listed, which collects many links to online resources for further reading, including leveled articles from a Scholastic database and formatted citations. VERDICT Though these selections provide useful outlines of some intriguing figures, they're quirky and uneven.-Bob Hassett, Luther Jackson Middle School, Falls Church, VA © Copyright 2015.
