Samsoe (Feminine Knits) experiments with a diverse set of techniques in her latest collection of knitwear patterns for women. The designs are grouped by approach-knit and purl (which includes stockinette and ribbing), lace, bobbles, cables, and garter stitch. Samsoe's treatment of each method ranges from straightforward, such as incorporating lace into a pair of knee-high socks, to experimental, such as using a spiral-lace design on the front and back of a sweater. There's a pleasing variety of yarn weights used in the patterns, which is a departure from the usual focus on fine, lightweight yarns in knitwear described as "feminine." Sizes included range from small to extra large. Several of the designs are appropriate for experienced beginners. As with most collections of this type, some projects are more successful than others, but there are a number of sweaters and accessories that would be flattering on all sorts of body types. VERDICT Samsoe is a skilled designer, and knitters seeking attractive and sophisticated garments and accessories will find a fine assortment here. © Copyright 2015.
