Author and self-pronounced Bill Murray fan Schnakenberg (Secret Lives of Great Authors) presents an alphabetical encyclopedia of all things Murray. Not a chronological or narrative biography, this title provides a variety of entries on subjects such as films in which Murray appeared, films for which he was considered, his childhood, his family, and his likes and dislikes. Though he obviously spent much time in research, the author affords little interpretation of events, quotes, or tidbits; Murray was not involved with this publication. Interspersed with the alphabetical entries are narratives of adventures called "Tales from Murrayland." Though often humorous, their random placement within the encyclopedic entries adds to the audiobook's disjointed nature. The lack of a narrative structure inhibits listeners' ability to navigate. Narrator Johnny Heller lends his considerable skills as a storyteller by making even the dullest of passages pleasant to hear. Heller uses subtle voice changes to assist listeners in determining quotes coming from Bill Murray. VERDICT While fans of the actor and comedian will enjoy this audio-book, few others will find it an agreeable experience. Even those stalwart fans may prefer the monograph, which allows readers to flip among related passages.-Lisa Youngblood, Harker Heights P.L., TX © Copyright 2017.
