Review by Library Journal Review

Based on Walter Farley's classic children's novel about a shipwrecked boy (Kelly Reno) saved from drowning by a wild Arabian horse, Carroll Ballard's (Never Cry Wolf; Fly Away Home) often poetic adaptation transcends "kid flick" pigeonholing with its appeal to all ages. National Velvet star Mickey Rooney made something of a career comeback as the retired jockey who trains his freckle-faced young charge to ride "Black" to racing renown. A movie relying more on pictures than dialog to tell its touching tale of enduring friendship, Stallion avoids stumbling on schmaltz. © Copyright 2015.
