While on vacation in Florida, Kit Finn sheds her timid persona and flirts with Matt Healy, a handsome stranger. She ends up spending the night with him, thinking it will just be a happy memory, but when she returns to New York, Matt calls and insists he must see her again. She shows up at his apartment, only to find that the man who answers the door is the real Matt Healy, and she's been conned. She's clueless as to why but discovers herself in the middle of a murder investigation when New York Matt is killed in a suspicious car accident. Her apartment is broken into, and she finds she has no one she can trust. Soon, she fears for her life. What's at the bottom of this mystery, and why is Kit involved? White's adrenaline-packed thriller sucks us in at first, but some readers may find that the relentless parade of one twisty turn after another becomes a little wearying. Still, there's plenty here to satisfy lovers of mainstream romantic suspense.--Vnuk, Rebecca Copyright 2015 Booklist

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

New York City interior decorator Kit Finn, the heroine of this absorbing novel of suspense from bestseller White (Eyes on You), has a one-night fling with Matt Healy, a man she meets at the end of her vacation on Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Then, on her way to the Miami airport, Matt calls to invite her to dinner at his Manhattan apartment. When Kit arrives for their date, the door is opened by a stranger who claims that he's Matt Healy, who's as surprised to see her as she is to see him. Kit resolves to find out why the man she met in Florida used someone else's identity, and what his motivation was for luring her to an apartment not his own. Her pursuit of the answers is fraught with danger to her coworkers, her business, and most especially herself. Kit doesn't know whom to trust or where to turn as the plot builds to an exciting, well-executed conclusion. Agent: Sandra Dijkstra, Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency. (June) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Review by Kirkus Book Review

Though she might suggest a bold accent wall to her clients, Manhattan interior decorator Kit Finn leads a quiet private lifeuntil one wild night in Florida sets her on a different, far more dangerous course. In White's (Eyes On You, 2014, etc.) breezy if predictable stand-alone, Kit is trying to squeeze in as much relaxation as possible while on vacation in Islamoradathink Netflix's Bloodlinewhen she meets the attractive Matt Healy. The two sleep together but agree the relationship can go no further, so Kit is surprised when Matt contacts her back home in New York with the offer of a home-cooked meal at his apartment. But she's more surprised when she arrives and finds that the real Matt Healy is a stranger who claims his wallet was stolen several days earlier. While this provides an interesting and necessary plot twist, it also reveals what will become an increasingly irksome habit of White's: undercutting nearly every crucial piece of information in the next chapter, deflating much of the suspense. As Kit reluctantly works with the real Matt, a portfolio manager, to find out how she got fooled and what the imposter's endgame could be, the faux Mattwho she soon learns is really Garrett Kelmanreappears with a story of conspiracies and insider trading, which Kit initially dismisses but soon realizes could be the truth when she's pulled into a murder investigation in Florida. When a second murder inquiry hits perilously close to home in Manhattan, Kit realizes that working with Garrett might be her only chance. While the whodunit aspects are fairly pedestrian, Kit makes for an intriguing heroine who holds her own. Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
