Review by Horn Book Review

In this wish-fulfillment fantasy originally published in 1954, a neglected foster child in Stockholm discovers that he is the long-lost son of the King of Farawayland. There Mio finds happiness but must embark on a dangerous quest. Child-pleasing details and adventures move the plot along, but the tone is permeated with Mio's need for his father's love, imbuing the book with melancholy longing. (c) Copyright 2016.
