Amendt's (Gluten-Free Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond) latest title takes readers all over the United States for a sampling of the best spreads, relishes, and other canned foods from state and county fairs. Chapters on ingredients, equipment, and processing techniques will give an overview into the basics of preserving. The 150 prize-winning recipes, including instructions for making pear lime jam, red onion marmalade, pickled cauliflower, and more, will delight beginning and more seasoned canners alike. Color photos and tips supplement facts about fairs and information on how the competitions are judged, making for a fun and informative volume. VERDICT While the recipes may tread on some familiar ground, Amendt's unique perspective on state fair winners will be a welcome addition to collections of preserving cookbooks.-Kristi Chadwick, Massachusetts Lib.
