Review by Library Journal Review

Desmond (Choosing Sides) and registered dietician Fan share ideas for eating during pregnancy. They focus on major nutrients and what to avoid and give a general orientation to the pregnancy experience, foodwise. Sprinkled throughout are "Belly to Belly" entries in which survey participants comment on coping skills for various conditions such as morning sickness, food cravings, and mindful eating. Many recipes are provided for breakfast, snacks, sweets, and easy meals. Yogurt muesli parfait with strawberry sauce, cherry lime fizzer, citrus ginger pops, and peaches and creamsicle smoothie (with silken tofu) are among the options. Issues on the safety of fish and the use of canned food are highlighted. Also discussed are such digestive troubles as constipation and heartburn. "Belly Bonus" tips offer more pointers, for example, that pregnant women should have about 70g of protein every day. Helpful charts break down the vitamins and minerals in each recipe and nutrition per serving is featured. VERDICT A solid source for pregnancy food ideas and valid advice for expecting women.-Barbara Kundanis, Longmont P.L., CO © Copyright 2015.
