There are a few basic characteristics to successful "gift" projects, as seen in craft books: they need to be useful enough that someone might want them in their home or attractive enough that someone might choose to wear or decorate with them. This compilation of crocheted offerings fits both of these traits, and crocheters might gift themselves with some of the items. Goldin, a Scotland-based crochet designer, divides her collection into four sections: gifts for the home, for women, for men, and for babies and small children. While each chapter contains lovely projects, the home section has a number of standouts, such as the luxuriously cozy-looking cabled throw, crocheted in a bulky yarn; the color block baskets, crocheted from sturdy jute twine; and a pouf made from jersey yarn. Many of the projects are quick to make-a welcome characteristic for presents-and there's a pleasing range of easy to intermediate techniques involved. VERDICT Crafting for gift giving is an ever-popular topic, and few books focus on crocheted objects. The finished arrangements here are appealing, and there's plenty of variety for all occasions. © Copyright 2015. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
