Asked to write a fairy tale for homework, Buzz asks his beloved pet fly for help. Fly Guy nixes Buzz's initial proposals for the protagonist (an ugly troll? . . . a smelly pig herder?). Finally, they agree on a handsome prince. After similar negotiations on plot, the boy's imagination takes flight. While Buzz writes his story, readers will enjoy a series of amusing dual illustrations. Fly Guy appears on every page, looking grumpy, grossed out, concerned, pleased, or happy with each new turn of events. Meanwhile, a thought balloon shows his vision of the tale, starring himself. Beginning readers will enjoy the comical contrast between Buzz's exciting plot twists and Fly Guy's more personal reactions to them. Simply written and imaginatively illustrated, this will please fans of the ever-popular Fly Guy series.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2015 Booklist

PreS-Gr 1-Everyone's favorite buzzing fly is back in a delightful tale about developing a new story. Buzz has to create a fairy tale for his homework and he uses his trusty friend Fly Guy as inspiration. Fly Guy quickly rejects stories portraying him as a troll or smelly pig herder, but takes flight with a story of him as a handsome prince rescuing a damsel in distress. Together the pair must maneuver around flyswatters and battle giants in hopes of finding the happy ending to their story. There is great attention to detail which deftly captures the delightful expressions of Fly Guy and his companions throughout the book. Although the text is brief and often contains one word sentences, the story is still very charming and is complemented by quirky art which will appeal to young readers. VERDICT An excellent addition to the series for fans and newcomers alike.-Maria Alegre, The Dalton School, New York © Copyright 2015. When Fly Guy helps boy Buzz with his homework, Fly Guy imagines himself as the insect hero of Buzz's original fairy tale. As Buzz thinks aloud ("Once upon a time, there was an ugly troll"), Fly Guy's verbal and nonverbal reactions help Buzz craft his story ("'No? What about a handsome prince?' 'YEZZ!'"). The humorous text and expressive illustrations support comprehension. (c) Copyright 2016. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
