Review by Booklist Review
This large volume celebrates the vehicle that changed the face of farming the (not-so-) humble tractor. More than 450 different tractors from around the world are shown in vivid color (some black-and-white historical images appear as well). The narrative runs from 1900-1920: The Early Years to After 2000: 21st Century. Major manufacturers (including Caterpillar, Ford, and John Deere) get two-page spreads. There is also a chapter on How Tractors Work: Tractor Technology, a glossary, and an index. While the photographs are the obvious draw, the narrative is surprisingly informative and well-researched. Suitable for public libraries, this book will do well in the circulating collection.--Vnuk, Rebecca Copyright 2010 Booklist
