Froggy awakens on his birthday ready to celebrate, but his family doesn't even mention his big day. Did they forget? None of his friends are home. Did they forget, too? A surprise party sends his spirits soaring again, though as he opens present after present, he wonders if he will get his unspoken birthday wish. Froggy's amphibian nature is comically underscored when he and his friends enjoy a sweet treat: chocolate-covered flies. With a conventional story and colorful, cartoonlike illustrations, the twenty-fifth picture book in the Froggy series invites fans to enjoy the irrepressible high spirits of this popular character.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2015 Booklist

PreS-Gr 2-Froggy makes a wish on an orange piñata moon the eve of his birthday. Froggy's confidence that his wish will come true is tested the next day when he can't find any of his best friends. A down-but-not-out Froggy returns home to discover his friends and family have thrown him a surprise party. Fans of the Froggy books will recognize the usual high jinks that ensue when friends give Froggy all sorts of gifts a mishap-prone guy like him should never receive: a skateboard, a scooter, and a pogo stick. But will any of his friends fulfill his birthday wish? After narrating more than 20 Froggy books, John McDonough still heartily zips, zuts, and zings his way through. VERDICT Fans of Froggy's antics will find more to love here. ["The forgotten-birthday-turned-surprise-party is a little worn out, but this plot thread takes up only a few pages, allowing for plenty of Froggy shenanigans at the event itself": SLJ 12/1/14 review of the Viking book.]-Jennifer Verbrugge, State Library Services, Roseville, MN © Copyright 2015. In his twenty-fourth fun- and chaos-filled episode, Froggy finally celebrates his birthday. Certain that everyone has forgotten it, Froggy trudges sadly home to a surprise party. His presents--a skateboard, a scooter, and a pogo stick--create the series-standard mayhem, and his wish for a fly-filled piqata is ultimately granted. Both the lively illustrations and onomatopoeia-heavy text are storytime-friendly. (c) Copyright 2015. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. In his 24th adventure, Froggy finally celebrates a birthday.Froggy cannot wait. He starts the day off right by singing "Happy birthday to meeeeeeeee!" while bouncing excitedly on his bed. But when he sees his family at the breakfast table, no one seems to remember that it is his special day. So he flops over to all of his friends' houses, but no one is home. Has everyone forgotten Froggy's birthday?! Of course notthere's a surprise party waiting for him at home. The story arc then shifts to Froggy's presents (all providing fodder for Froggy's wild antics and zany sound effects) before finally settling on Froggy's birthday wisha piata, given to him by none other than Frogilina. The story plods, er, flops along with no real momentum. Remkiewicz's expressive characters do their best to add energy, and the extra zings and bonks help, but as the subject suggests, Froggy just may be getting old. Predictable fare to be sure, but series fans will likely follow Froggy wherever he goes. (Picture book. 3-6) Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
