Review by Library Journal Review

A relatively young woman (Harriet Andersson) painfully dying of cancer is attended by her two sisters (Liv Ullmann, Ingrid Thulin) but really only cared for by a sympathetic housemaid (Kari Sylwan). Composed largely of facial close-ups, Ingmar Bergman's deathwatch is perhaps his most austere work-one focused on discomfiting family dynamics as expressed through looks in lieu of dialog and a pointedly symbolic color scheme. Digitally restored and enhanced with supplemental material, this release is for serious art-film fans. [See Trailers, LJ 2/1/15.] © Copyright 2015.
