Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

This massive volume can be best described as a photographic showcase of some of the world's most exclusive and diverse gardens. With an introduction by garden designer Cox, it comprises more than 1,200 color photographs of more than 250 gardens located on five continents, with a narrow column of text accompanying the photos. More a trove to be lingered over than a reference work to be consulted for garden minutiae, the book offers inspiration to interested gardeners of any skill level. The photos offer visual lessons highlighting the diversity of gardens, while at the same time accentuating the differences between, say, a "poetic" garden and a "quirky" garden. The density of visuals displayed with relatively little text leaves the reader a lot to digest, making it difficult at times to pinpoint the intended takeaway. Readers who can explore slowly will be transported around the world into lovely, curious, and distinctly human landscapes. (Nov.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
