Review by Booklist Review

No matter where you live, this book will be a catalyst for kids to explore the great outdoors. The book is divided by habitats water, trees, parks, backyards, and even the fun that can be had in a cityscape. Concise facts and snippets of other information are offered in colorful, high-contrast pages. There are also all kinds of activities that vary in difficulty. Kids are invited to build a solar oven, plant a butterfly garden, and make chalk for sidewalk games (though that seems complicated). Also included are guessing games and ideas for different sorts of play. Whatever the locale, this book makes a terrific companion. A list of top U.S. parks and a page about Michelle Obama's Let's Move program conclude. A top-notch addition to the National Geographic Kids series.--Edmundson, Martha Copyright 2010 Booklist

Review by Horn Book Review

With technological advances at an all-time high," this book suggests places to go and outdoor activities, and it offers facts about animals and land in a variety of settings (beach, forest, cities, parks, backyards, etc.). The information is lively, but the layout is overwhelming and random. Educators will find the information and activities useful. Appendices include "Top U.S. State Parks" list. Websites. Glos., ind.
