Loki Agent of Asgard

Al Ewing

Book - 2014

The God of Mischief is stronger, smarter, sexier and just plain sneakier than ever before. As Asgardia's one-man secret service, he's ready to lie, cheat, steal, bluff and snog his way through the twistiest, turniest and most treacherous missions the All-Mother can throw at him - starting with a heart-stopping heist on Avengers Tower! And that's just the beginning as Loki takes on Lorelei in Monte Carlo's casinos and heads back to the dawn of Asgard to join its greatest heroes on a quest for a certain magical sword! But when he puts together a crew to crack the deepest dungeons of Asgardia itself, there may be one plot twist too many for even Loki to handle. As Loki fights for Asgard - and, as always, for himself - he...39;ll find that he's not the only one who can keep a secret.

Review by Booklist Review

Thank Tom Hiddleston, whose charming and complex portrayal of the evil Loki in Marvel's recent movies has generated most of the character's current popularity and paved the way for this engaging new series. Seeking to escape the burden of his lying, cheating, murdering past, Loki has been reborn as a YA-friendly teenager (inasmuch as an immortal can be a teen), and he now serves as a secret agent of sorts for Asgard. Rendering both intrigue and comedy on an appropriately mythic scale, Ewing sews multiple genres together seamlessly into one adventure mash-up of espionage, sword-and-sorcery, and superhero stories. Loki's theft of a legendarily heroic sword and his effort to find out how his Asgardian overseers are gaming him is crowded with twists and turns, but the character's struggle against his own dark nature imbues the ne'er-do-well with a sense of embraceable, even lovable humanity. References to popular Marvel movies, unobtrusive exposition, and Garbett's cinematic figures and action sequences make this an easy choice for the curious newcomer as well as the aficionado.--Karp, Jesse Copyright 2014 Booklist
