Here's the secret of bulky yarns they knit up quickly. This attractive book features more than 25 patterns that use bulky- or superbulky-weight yarn, and the great thing about them is that they are not the usual suspects. Yes, there are hats, mittens, and scarves and shawls, but there are also a delicate-looking lace capelet, a scalloped necklace, and even a lacy lampshade covering. Knitters looking for instant gratification will find it in smaller projects: braided wall art, jewelry, and round, cabled sachets. Each project gets a clearly explained set of instructions and one, and sometimes two, color photographs of the finished product. Everything about this, from the large print size to the full-bleed pictures, seems as solid as the yarn it celebrates.--Cooper, Ilene Copyright 2014 Booklist

Little and a team of designers offer a potpourri of 31 knitting projects that use chunky yarn. Knitters are often drawn to bulky or thicker yarns because they work up fast, without compromising beauty or technique. The patterns here range in skill level from beginner to experienced. Color photos illustrate the pieces nicely. All instructions are clearly written, and a basic instructional section explains stitches and techniques. These projects highlight a wide variety of wearable items such as mittens, gloves, lacy scarves, a capelet, hats, a vest, boot cuffs, knitted jewelry, and purses. Among the items to embellish the home are a pillow, a throw blanket, jar cozies, a lamp shade cover, window treatments, and a small ottoman. Many of the pieces are intended for gift giving and require small amounts of yarn that people will likely have on hand. Verdict Little does a good job of creating a useful and worthwhile book intended for a wide range of knitters.-Deborah Broocker, Georgia Perimeter Coll. Lib., Dunwoody (c) Copyright 2014.
