*Starred Review* In a loving celebration of airborne transportation, Light packs the pages of this eye-catching board book with the perfect combination of dynamic illustrations and silly, fun words. Beginning with a seaplane (which goes GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Putt Putt Putt SSSPLAAASHH!), the aircraft, including a helicopter, jumbo jet, and prop plane, cheerfully zip along, culminating with a space shuttle (3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . LIFT-OFF!) on a double-page spread thrillingly full of smoky, orange-and-red launching plumes. The bright and colorful watercolor illustrations zoom across the blue-and-white cloudy backgrounds on wide-trim pages. Buzzy, onomatopoeic sounds in splashy, expressive fonts make this one easily enjoyable with or without a grown-up. Airplane-loving tykes won't be able resist enthusiastically WHHHRRRRing along with these marvelous flying machines.--Hunter, Sarah Copyright 2014 Booklist

Starred Review. Lights fourth vehicular board book (after Trucks Go, Trains Go, and Diggers Go) is every bit the sensory experience as its predecessors, combining expressive paintings of planes, helicopters, and other airships with sound effects that beg to be shouted and growled. The extreme horizontal trim size is, once again, ideal for conveying a sense of movement as a fighter jet goes ssssssssswwooooooossshhhhh, leaving a fiery trail of red and black squiggles behind, and a purple blimp slides between stormy, purple clouds. Eight flying machines whoosh across Light's extra-wide board-book pages. "The seaplane goes, GGRRRRRRRRRRRRR Putt Putt Putt SSSPLAAASHH! // The helicopter goes, PITTATATTATA PITTATATTATA PITTATATTATA." Readers continue their onomatopoeic journey via jumbo jet, propeller plane, fighter plane and, despite the title, a couple of contraptions that aren't exactly planes, such as a blimp. Light's gestural watercolors in bold colors against white backgrounds capture the planes clearly in profile, but as in Trains Go, Trucks Go and Diggers Go, the blocky type in a rainbow of colors animating the expressive text is what propels readers forward. Would-be readers will probably want to give the book a test flight before sharing it with little ones due to the multiple consonants and vowels. While the reference may be a little dated, the inclusion of the space shuttle provides a welcome change in the playful text as well as the book's orientation: "The space shuttle goes... 3 2 1 LIFT-OFF!"
