Review by School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 2-These two entries follow the successful format already established in this popular series. In each title, three brief chapters with plenty of full-color illustrations, large font, and ample white space serve to relate a single adventure and a single conflict that young children will easily recognize. On a visit to a ranch in Cowgirl, horse-crazy Katie is totally gung ho, until the size of the horse brings on a few unexpected jitters. Likewise, in Fly High, a misplaced teddy bear interferes somewhat with the thrill of a first plane ride. A consistent cast of supporting characters that includes friends Pedro and JoJo, as well as Katie's kind and reassuring parents, helps the little girl to navigate her world. Each book concludes with discussion questions, suggested writing prompts, and a hands-on activity related to the given topic. Solid purchases for established Katie Woo fans or where there's a need for beginning readers.-Gloria Koster, West School, New Canaan, CT (c) Copyright 2014. Review by Horn Book Review

Katie overcomes her fear of horseback riding in Cowgirl and of flying in Fly High. Each transitional early chapter book features a simple but structured plot broken up by colorful, emotive illustrations. Vocabulary and sentences are complex enough for newly independent readers to start building confidence. Discussion questions, writing prompts, and a simple recipe conclude each book. Glos.
