What I know for sure

Oprah Winfrey

Book - 2014

"After film critic Gene Siskel asked her, "What do you know for sure?" Oprah Winfrey began writing the "What I Know For Sure" column in O, The Oprah Magazine. Saying that the question offered her a way to take "stock of her life," Oprah has penned one column a month over the last fourteen years, years in which she retired The Oprah Winfrey Show (the highest-rated program of its kind in history), launched her own television network, became America's only bl...ack billionaire, was awarded an honorary degree from Harvard University and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, watched friends and colleagues come and go, lost beloved pets and adopted new ones, and celebrated milestone birthdays. Throughout it all, she's continued to offer her profound and inspiring words of wisdom in her "What I Know For Sure" column in O, The Oprah Magazine. Now, for the first time, these thoughtful gems have been revised, updated, and collected in What I Know For Sure, a beautiful book packed with insight and revelation from Oprah Winfrey. Organized by theme--joy, resilience, connection, gratitude, possibility, awe, clarity, and power--these essays offer a rare and powerful glimpse into the mind of one of the world's most extraordinary women. Candid, moving, exhilarating, uplifting, and dynamic, the words Oprah shares in What I Know For Sure shimmer with the sort of wisdom and truth that readers will turn to again and again. "--

Beloved talk show pioneer, philanthropist, author, and actress Winfrey assembles a powerful collection of teachable moments and plainspoken empowerment in this inspirational audiobook. With her uniquely comforting and confident voice, she reflects on the emotions and concepts that will stand the test of time: joy, resilience, awe, connection, gratitude, and possibility. So conversational that she seems unscripted, Winfrey shares many light and profound life experiences, such as dancing onstage with Tina Turner, gardening passionately, learning the value of education, and having a profound spiritual encounter while hiking. This treasury of private revelations and spirituality is a must-read for those seeking self-improvement and wanting to probe the art of living. A Flatiron hardcover. (Sept.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Starred Review. This collection of inspirational remembrances and encouragements was compiled from Winfrey's monthly column in O, the Oprah Magazine. (In some cases the material has been revised with updated insights.) With wit, wisdom, and more than a little joy, the beloved celebrity shares with listeners those things that she knows "for sure." She explains that while opinions and outlooks change, you know in your inner being those things that are innately true. Read by Winfrey herself, this assemblage feels like a particularly rich and lively conversation with a close friend. She both entertains and enlightens listeners with her stories, life lessons, and practical advice. Because this is a compilation of columns that appeared over a 14-year span, some concepts and observations are repeated. Offering everything from personal recollections to amusing observations, this work delivers a valuable experience in a relatively short time. Oprah's fans will not be disappointed. VERDICT An essential purchase for libraries whose patrons seek reassurance, stimulation, and motivation to lead full and productive lives.-Lisa Youngblood, Harker Heights P.L., TX (c) Copyright 2014.
