Review by Booklist Review

X-Men fans who have waited for the first original X-men graphic novel since 1982 can breathe easy now that this title is here. Carey and Larroca deliver a story that feels both classic and original. This is written for the fans currently reading the myriad X-Men titles on the shelves, so newcomers to the decades-spanning series should start elsewhere. Taking place before Wolverine left the Jean Grey School, the story concerns the future villainous son of Wolverine and Mystique, Raze, who has found a way to eject all humans from Earth. The X-Men (both Cyclops' and Wolverine's teams) must put aside their differences and bring humanity back to their home planet. Carey brings his lofty intelligence to the dialogue, a perfect fit for the pontificating icons in this story, such as Magneto, Beast, and Cyclops, and he gives each the space to dive into their conflicting motivations. Larroca is a marvel unto himself, choreographing colorful, elaborate multicharacter fight sequences without losing the viewer. If you are current with everything X-Men, this book is for you.--Spanner, Ben Copyright 2014 Booklist
