Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Most kids know well the Disney versions of 101 Dalmatians, but few are familiar with Dodie Smith's original novel of the same name published in 1956. Now comes the audio interpretation, read with just the right amount of sophistication, exuberance and humor by British actor Martin Jarvis. (Feb.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved

Review by Horn Book Review

Read by Martin Jarvis. Martin Jarvis narrates this classic with arch abandonment, neatly matching the text in both style and tone. He takes on Dodie Smith's wildly divergent cast of characters and gives voice and personality to every one of them: the wicked Cruella de Vil, the benevolent but dithering Mr. and Mrs. Dearly, and the keenly clever Pongo. Jarvis picks out and pounces on words with extraordinary vigor and deftly underlines the authorial asides with a wry, one-eyebrow-raised wit. Disney may have co-opted this story, but the original is a grander treat, full of puckish humor and fur-raising adventure. From HORN BOOK, (c) Copyright 2010.
