Mayville Heights' library director Kathleen Paulson is busy organizing and hosting a fundraiser for a reading program when a guest drops dead at the gala. The victim turns out to be the ex-wife of the local bad boy who had not lived in town for years. With the help of her mischievous cats, Hercules and Owen, who have a mysterious instinct for sleuthing, Kathleen and her detective boyfriend, Marcus Gordon, find themselves at cross-purposes as they try to figure out who did it. VERDICT With its charming small-town setting and quirky characters, Kelly's sixth series entry (after Final Catcall) offers another easy and pleasant read. The natural storytelling and believable worldbuilding adds to the appeal. Perfect for folks who love Shirley Rousseau Murphy. (c) Copyright 2014.
