Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 9 Up-This sweeping synopsis of mental conditions is presented in four sections, each of which includes the perspective of someone who's "been there." Chapters provide descriptions of various symptoms, treatments, and causes along with prescriptions for coping and recovery. "Self-Test Questions," a "Mental Disorders Dictionary," and, finally, correlative resources, including websites, hotlines, and addresses for various organizations, are included. The illustrations are slightly reminiscent of the works of Hieronymus Bosch; they are thought-provoking yet might inadvertently seem disconcerting. This accessible book offers a narrative enriched with first-person vignettes personalizing topics relating to mental disorders.-Kathryn Diman, Bass Harbor Memorial Library, Bernard, ME (c) Copyright 2013.
