Review by Library Journal Review

Well's (Sabina Kane fantasies) new series opens with Kate Prospero, a beat cop in the rust belt city of Babylon, catching a case involving a new potion that turns people into bloodthirsty monsters. Kate swore off magic and potion-stirring when she broke from her family's criminal enterprise, but the opportunity to join a new federal task force to crack down on the dirty potions that have been flooding Babylon's streets is too good an opportunity to pass up. -VERDICT Urban fantasy shelves are full of kick-ass heroes fighting crime on mean magical streets, so when a new book stands out from the crowd, it is something special. The characters are what makes this fantasy, from conflicted Kate to the large supporting cast of friends and enemies. Wells has created a world where addictive potions stand in for drugs and covens replace gangs. It is grim and gritty and completely fascinating. Hopefully further volumes in the series will explore Babylon's underworld and criminal justice system even deeper. (c) Copyright 2014.
