Starred Review. Readers will feel like they've stumbled upon Neil Gaiman's personal scrapbook in what is the first biography of the popular and endearingly strange author. Writer Campbell charts Gaiman's career from freelance journalist to comic book writer to novelist in pages gorgeously littered with drawings, photos, handwritten notes, and early story outlines. Gaiman's clever and wry humor shines through in conducted interviews and running commentary that even surfaces in the photo captions. Presented like a coffee-table book, it serves as both a beautiful display piece and wealth of information, including morsels on Gaiman's stab at a music career, his conversations with writer Alan Moore for advice on graphic novels, his collaboration with sf author Terry Pratchett, and his work on the beloved television classic Doctor Who. VERDICT Campbell has clearly taken great care to construct such a lavish and detailed offering and fans will be hanging on every word and illustration for a deeper insight into Gaiman's eccentric genius.
