Review by Library Journal Review

An arrogant police chief (Gian Maria Volonte, A Fistful of Dollars) kills his girlfriend, then dares to be charged with the crime by leaving evidence and manipulating the departmental investigation he's heading up. Boosted by Volonte's overscaled performance, Elio Petri's absurdist political drama pokes fun at the fascistic police tactics of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Ennio Morricone's typically quirky score underlines the satire. Superbly restored, with context-providing extras, this Oscar winner is not guilty of irrelevance. (c) Copyright 2014.
