Review by Library Journal Review

It is estimated that every year, some 1.6 million people suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Given that "when the brain is damaged the individual's behavior-physical, cognitive, and emotional-will be affected," Cassidy, a neuropsychiatrist and cofounder of a TBI program at Boston's McLean Hospital, provides a guide for patients and their families. Part 1 surveys basic types of brain injury; Part 2 examines how injury has an impact on the body and mind; Part 3 is devoted to treatment and rehabilitation, from arrival in the emergency room through surgery, medications, and various therapies, to discharge home; Part 4 deals with the issues facing patient and family after rehabilitative treatment ceases. Patient's stories reveal and enhance all parts of the book. Verdict A genuinely supportive, well-written, and information-laden guide for caregivers.-Jodith Janes, Cleveland Clinic Fdn. Lib.
