Emily, Clarabel, Lulu, and Jaminta are the Rescue Princesses. They meet for the first time when their families gather for the Mistberg Grand Ball, and all four of the nine-year-old princesses would rather be outside on the zip line and obstacle course than inside practicing walking with their heads held straight or how to curtsy correctly. After escaping outside from the first evening's banquet, their play is interrupted by an animal's distress call. Using Emily's flashlight and Jaminta's glowing precious jewels, they track down a baby deer caught in a trap and rescue it. And so begins their investigation into the trapping of the deer that live in Mistberg Forest, and the quest to get adults especially the king to believe them. Simple, mangalike line drawings appear on one page per chapter and illustrate the girls in action. Harrison's first title in a new chapter-book series is sure to charm young girls.--Roush, Suanne Copyright 2010 Booklist
