Police detective Luke Hanover is taken aback to be in his grandmother's beach house kitchen with a sexy brunette on the telephone, chewing out her cheating boyfriend, in nothing but her lacy underwear. Meeting a cop that way is also the last thing ceramicist and floral designer Ali Winters expects. Yet when Ali finds herself accused of stealing money from her ex-boyfriend's office, the unexpected Luke turns out to be just the person she needs. A weary, dis-illusioned cop who needs some downtime following a disastrous high-profile case and a fierce, caring heroine who tries to make the best of things fight to catch a culprit and end up falling in love. VERDICT Engaging writing, characters that walk straight into your heart, and a town you can't wait to revisit make this touching, hilarious tale another heart-warmer worthy of Shalvis's popular series. Shalvis (Under the Mistletoe) lives in the Sierras near Lake Tahoe. (c) Copyright 2013. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
