Most of us are familiar with letterpress printing from fancy wedding invitations or old books. In this guide, White, an experienced printmaker and book artist, gives DIYers a thorough introduction to this very old art. After an overview of equipment and techniques (including a useful section that helps novice printers select the best printer for their needs), the author presents a variety of projects designed to show everything that can be done with each of the sizes and styles of home presses. Brief interviews with letterpress artists are interspersed throughout the book, as are beautiful full-color illustrations of finished projects. VERDICT White's inspiring, in-depth introduction to the art of letterpress will appeal to a variety of visual artists, as well as papercrafters with an interest in taking their craft further.
