Review by Booklist Review

The second volume of this 39 Clues spin-off series reprints three independent short stories originally published as separate e-books. All three feature young members of the Cahill clan Harry Houdini himself in one, and fictional characters from other eras and episodes in the others risking their lives to keep important family artifacts out of the clutches of the evil Vespers. For story line context, a familiarity with the original series is a necessity, but even for new readers, each tale offers plenty of action and suspense, along with enough historical background to create credible senses of place and time.--Peters, John Copyright 2014 Booklist

Review by Horn Book Review

More Cahill history is unlocked in this second collection of one-off stories. This book focuses on three teens: Frederick Warren in 1814 Maryland, Harry Houdini in 1891 NYC, and Fiske Cahill in 1955 Connecticut, each of whom battle Vespers to protect Gideon's ring, a Cahill treasure. The well-explored historical backdrops provide context for these adventures, rooting the reader in each time and place. (c) Copyright 2013.
