Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-8-These books are updated and improved editions of survey titles originally published by John Wiley & Sons. The well-organized volumes begin with a pithy introduction to the subject, followed by 22 simple but interesting and thought-provoking experiments. Van Cleave states the basic goal of the experiments, followed by a list of necessary materials, most of which can be found around the house or easily acquired with minimal cost. Step-by-step instructions are clearly detailed and accompanied by diagrams where needed. The results section states exactly what is expected to happen and the "Why?" section explains in accessible terms why those specific results were achieved. Absolutely no prior scientific knowledge is necessary for these activities. Approachable and informative additions.-Grace Oliff, Ann Blanche Smith School, Hillsdale, NJ (c) Copyright 2012.
