Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

This bilingual counting book features works on display at the San Antonio Museum of Art; basic descriptions and questions encourage close examination of each image. Six Mexican folk-art puppets strum instruments; a detail from Faith Ringgold's The Funeral: Lover's Quilt #3 features nine portraits on fabric and the prompt, "Who is wearing a hat?" On another spread, 10 anthropomorphic and ceremonial masks confront readers with their dynamic expressions. Perceptive readers will likely be drawn toward the diverse images and media, which are identified in an appended section. Ages 4-8. (Sept.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

Review by School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 1-These titles represent a unique museum/library partnership. Each of these concept books is illustrated with reproductions of artwork from the museum. All of the volumes are impeccably designed. Combining a focus on early literacy with a connection to fine art is absolutely brilliant. Must-haves for all collections. (c) Copyright 2013.
