Review by Library Journal Review

Certified holistic health practitioner and Crohn's disease survivor Korth seeks to provide readers with holistic alternatives to manage inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) so they can better live a productive life. After Korth introduces her own experience with Crohn's and her approach to IBD, she discusses the disease itself and common Western treatment methods such as medications and surgery. Then she moves on to different holistic approaches. Food intolerance, inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods that affect IBD, and supplements are also covered. Korth offers examples and anecdotes about patients she treated by modifying their diet to relieve their symptoms; to empower her readers, she incorporates quizzes, worksheets, and grocery shopping cards of substitutions for eight of the most common allergens. The book also includes a "Recipe Corner," which gives suggestions for everything from beverages to desserts. Korth lists cited references and resources (mostly of IBD-related food websites) at the book's end. VERDICT For those seeking an overview of IBD, take a look at John Hunter's Inflammatory Bowel Disease: The Essential Guide to Controlling Crohn's Disease, Colitis and Other IBDs. Korth's book is recommended for readers looking for a recipe-heavy discussion of IBD.-Rebecca Raszewski, Univ. of Illinois at Chicago Lib. (c) Copyright 2012.
