Review by Library Journal Review

An ambitious mother (Anna Magnani) pushes her unexceptional little girl into a screen test with unfortunate results in Bellissima, the first of two early-career neorealist classics from Luchino Visconti (1906-76). Sicilian fishermen exploited for their cheap labor vainly strike out on their own in La Terra Trema. Visconti rejoined Burt Lancaster, star of the director's magnum opus, The Leopard (LJ 10/15/10), for Conversation Piece, about a retired professor whose quiet life is upended by intrusive renters. Restored and remastered, this handsome threesome are suited for avid film buffs. (c) Copyright 2012. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
