Gr 5 Up-These how-to math books were designed to supplement instruction. Each one begins with a discussion of test-taking strategies. The layout is attractive; the effective use of white space will keep readers from becoming overwhelmed by the content. The titles are divided into brief chapters, each highlighting a basic skill or property, followed by problems in a "Test Time" box that's designed to look like notebook paper. The problems are "Multiple Choice" or ask readers to "Explain Your Answer" or "Show Your Work." "Test-Taking Hint" and "Definition" text boxes are prominent throughout the series; some of them are repeated in different volumes. With only four pages and two test questions dedicated to each skill, the series is not intended for thorough practice and drill but offers a useful refresher.
