Review by Library Journal Review
Using an unusual question-and-answer format, this guide offers a nonlinear, troubleshooting approach that will help readers find answers quickly. Questions about equipment, workspaces, color, composition, techniques, still life, landscapes, figures, style, and display of finished paintings are answered and accompanied by step-by-step photos throughout. Though the answers are usually no more than a couple of pages in length, James (art, emeritus, California State Univ., Fullerton) goes beyond basic techniques to include such special topics as ox gall liquid, stipple buildup, knifing, and salt effects. VERDICT Best for intermediate watercolor artists wishing to broaden their watercolor repertoire. (c) Copyright 2013. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
