The latest entry in this blood-soaked series focuses on intricate double crossing. We're down to a few survivors connected to the Miami cartel run by the Diamond family, and there's no quarter given during vicious retaliations. Robyn, one of the Murder Mamas crew, sums it up: "If you kill one, they are going to come, and kill ten of yours." Betrayal and devious maneuvering hurtle from three directions-the Diamond Cartel, the Mexican Garza family, and a thug named Murder who's bent on revenge for the torture and butchering of his love, Miamor. Throw in 3000 kilos of cocaine, and everybody is desperate to become stupid-rich. Verdict The Cartel books (The Cartel; The Cartel 2: Tale of the Murder Mamas) are wildly popular in street lit, perhaps because of the no-holds-barred violence. This third entry continues with the savagery, but pay attention to the femme fatales. Everyone knows hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned, so why do men keep on trying to play them?-Rollie Welch, "The Word on Street Lit," BookSmack! 9/16/10 (c) Copyright 2010.
