Review by Booklist Review

In this superlative novel, the hero's house is burglarized after the death of his uncle in a spaceship accident. One thing leads to another, and the protagonist is inevitably drawn to the trail of the secret of Christopher Sim, the legendary hero of a war against telepathic aliens two centuries ago. The book features excellent pacing, a wonderfully lived-in world, superior characterizations, and a rare quality of ethical concern. A Talent for War bridges the gap between literary and commercial sf with rare facility and belongs in every collection. -- Roland Green
