Twenty scarves, 20 hats, and 20 mittens are on display here. Page one leads off with a lace slouchy hat, and 59 projects later, we finish off with long-sleeve mittens (gauntlets) that feature bobbles and cables. Although the title calls the projects quick, they are not particularly easy. A variety of stitches, including Fair Isle, are used throughout. The directions are delivered concisely, and charts are prevalent. The finished projects offer something for almost everyone on the distaff side, at least, though some of the caps can be adapted for men. Children get some cute caps, especially one that looks like a puppy. One of the best elements of the book is the up-close color photos. Knitters will really get to see what their finished projects will (hopefully) look like. Though all this winter gear is knit in Cascade sport yarn, any yarn of the same weight should do.--Cooper, Ilene Copyright 2010 Booklist

This third book in the "60 Quick Knits" series (60 Quick Baby Knits) focuses on projects knit in Cascade 220 Sport, an economical, sport-weight yarn available in a wide variety of colors. This collection includes 20 hats, 20 scarves, and 20 mittens knit via a variety of techniques, including cables, lace, stranded color work, intarsia, and double knitting. The majority of the patterns in the collection are designed for intermediate to advanced knitters, though the degree of difficulty listed on several of the projects seems inflated. Like other books in the series, these knits would make excellent gifts-there's plenty of style for a small investment of money and time. (c) Copyright 2011.
