K-Gr 2-Prickles is reminiscent of Mo Willems's "Pigeon" stories (Hyperion): two cats and a pack of dust bunnies argue over the bunnies' fate. In Doctor Bugspit, strange patients visit the doctor's office and are cured with equally odd remedies. Super-Duper Dog Park details an epic journey to a truly fabulous dog park, while Brave Boy Knight, the most complex of the four, is the story of a would-be knight, his monster friend, and their adventures in the kingdom of the Animal Princess. The writing is consistently simple, clear, and often repetitious, with visual clues to aid comprehension. The layout is engaging and accessible, enhanced by large-print speech bubbles and vivid, cartoon-style art. The combination of easy-to-read texts, high-interest plots, and eye-catching illustrations will make these titles appealing to reluctant and emerging readers.-Nicole Waskie-Laura, Chenango Forks Elementary, Binghamton, NY (c) Copyright 2012.
