K-Gr 1-A ballet-dancing kitten is about to learn a new move. Her teacher is introducing a dance for two, but Mia's partner is sick and can't participate. While feeling lonely and looking forlorn, two new students each volunteer to be her partner. Knowing how it feels to be alone, she convinces her teacher to allow her to have two partners in the dance. Displaying their delight, the three girls jump and twirl and dance together. A dictionary of basic ballet positions follows the simple story. Written for the earliest readers, the text is minimal and perfectly matched with each picture. Enhanced with pastel details, the watercolor artwork is full of pink touches. This simple tale teaches a big lesson about friendship and kindness and is a welcome addition to beginning-reader collections.-Diane Antezzo, Ridgefield Library, CT (c) Copyright 2012.
