Pairing repetition with simple couplets, May takes readers up to the number 10 in this padded book with cardboard pages: "One kiss for baby/ on baby's nose/ Two kisses for baby/ tickling toes." Ainslie offers delicately outlined images that show a small girl in a blue dress cavorting with a trio of stuffed animals; as the numbers increase, so do the number of childlike pink and red hearts on each spread, helping drive home the concept.
